I
have always had a passion for horses and my love of quarter horses
started when I went to live in Minnesota in the 70's. I bought
a brood mare called Petit Discount, a daughter of Poco Discount
by Poco Bueno, and she was in foal to a stallion called Marina
City by Spanish Clipper. I really like the temperament of the
Poco horses. From this chestnut mare I started to breed and show
quarter horses.
When
I left America in the early 80's and returned home to England
to eventually work in London I never gave up the idea of having
horses again and hopefully quarter horses. Over the years I owned
a TB ex race horse gelding and a four month old filly which I
trained and eventually sold as a bomb proof riding horse. I had
a ten year gap, riding other people's horses, before I finally
got the chance to own and now eventually breed quarter horses.
My
aim is to breed one or two horses a year with the emphasis on
foundation all round horses. Although my two mares are not foundation
horses in the purest sense they have some pretty good bloodlines.
Widden Close Quarter Horses is located near Lymington, Hampshire
in the beautiful setting of the New Forest.
